Gettin' Ready
Oddly enough, I'm still not used to waking up at 4:30 a.m. every morning. I'm, by nature, a night person and the early morning rises are certainly not a badge of honor. It is however a labor of love for my sweet little girls that are not so little anymore. I find myself drawing strength from them and how strong it seems that God has made them. I do this training stuff, and to better myself mentally and spiritually, for them. This weekend will be for them and with them in mind. I draw a ton of strength from knowing they rely on their daddy and that will be the impetus behind what pushes me. Not because I want them to know that I competed in a triathlon, but because I want them to see that I want to be a better daddy in every way. This weekend's event is just the beginning of the long journey.
Today's workout was a swim, weight training, and a morning run. I'm tapering for the event so the workouts are becoming less intense. Troy and I leave on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday and Friday will be total off days dedicated to rest for Saturday's event. I'm pumped, a little anxious, a little nervous, but definitely excited. I've put a lot of pressure on myself to do well. Now it's time to deliver!

Nike Air Zoom Vomero

Today was a scheduled rest day but because of Troy and myself having to travel to Cleveland, TN, we decided to flip flop the days and make tomorrow our rest day. We ran our allotted 45 minutes and today I actually felt pretty good once I broke through the wall. Training is coming along nicely and I'm starting to feel like I want to do more and go farther in the three disciplines. Today I ran 5 miles in 44:50. Not too bad for and old fella.
For the last two days I've been running in the new Nike Air Zoom Vomeros. They are, by far, the best running shoe I've ever run in. Troy got a pair as well and loves them also. Thanks to my man Big E, we were blessed with a bunch of Nike running gear that arrived at my door step via Fedex. Big E is simply the man! Thanks so much E!
Above is a picture of Big E and the legendary women's coach Yow from NC State and also a picture of the Nike swag he sent. We're looking forward to our rest day.

It's Friday! Rest Day!
Friday. . . YES! Today is a scheduled rest day and my body (and Troy's too) desperately needs it! I've decided to do nothing physical today. However, my mind tells me to do something small like pushups or a short easy bike ride or something. I'm not going to listen to what my head is telling me and instead listen to what the experts say to do and give my body a proper rest period. I know my body needs it and my calves could certainly use the rest! So for today, I'm resting and enjoying the beautiful spring day with my daughter and a movie and thanking God for his blessings that I don't deserve. He has given me health and life and that is a huge blessing in itself.
Back to training tomorrow!
